When you just want to quit your creative job

We all get fed up sometimes.
Fed up with all the trying, the keeping up, the persevering against all costs.
We would like to give up on our creative dream and start looking for a regular full-time job. A job with the less possible hassle or brain space.

You know what?
That’s cool.

  • Because we all experience serious ‘downs’ in between the ‘ups’. And our brains spend way more attention and importance on those downs. [That’s some leftover from back in the days, when we had to act/flee/fight very fast when something bad happened]

  • Because a break, a true break from it all, could possibly bring the well-needed rest & space to find back your spark or that passion that you seem to have lost along the way. So yes, get that temporary position or project if you feel like it.

But wait!
What about my lifelong dream to be a writer / a photographer / a visual artist / an illustrator / a sculptor?

Well, it‘s not because you take a break now, that you completely put away that dream of yours.

OR - even more important. It’s not because you dreamed your whole life about becoming a certain someone, that you can’t change that goal along the way. Or make a shift towards another destination that makes you even happier.

We evolve. We grow. We learn so much.
So we CAN change the route and still be true to ourselves.

On the other hand. Perseverance can be a truly beautiful thing too. To hold on, to persist, to be sometimes stubborn and make sacrifices. And to be super proud and endlessly happy that you kept going and achieved the result all by yourself.

How can you know if you should STOP or CONTINUE?
The first step is getting to know yourself truly by asking lots of questions about why you take certain actions and steps. And to answer them very honestly.

  • If you still feel the spark and tingling about your dreams & goals - wellll, keep going, persist and struggle through the downs, back to the ups.

  • If you feel rather sad about pretty much everything, feel like having lost the passion for your profession, then perhaps a break is in order.

Extra tip: talking about all these doubts with someone who gets what you go through, can be super powerful to find a solution way more quickly than trying to handle it alone. By talking and saying stuff out loud, you come to wonderful insights about yourself.
