how to act when a setback hits

When you’re a creator who’s gaining an income out of creative work, you will encounter setbacks from time to time. Unevitably.

These setbacks are often deeply disappointing moments that can give you a punch in the face. Sometimes they make you lose courage. Or even make you doubt your talent, products or approach.

Setbacks are always surrounded with emotions - be it anger or frustration, sadness or uncertainty.

And it ‘s important to not let these strong emotions decide your next steps.

So today I will explain how you can channel your emotions when you’re experiencing a setback

Hear me out!

Right? So the key is to take a certain distance and look at the situation in a more analytic way.

Like I mentioned in the video: the easiest way to look at a problem in an objective way, is to ask yourself some quick questions. I gladly repeat them here, so you can get back to them whenever you’re facing a setback or disappointment.

During the setback:

  • What happened?

  • What’s not going well and why?

Afterwards:

  • How have you dealt with this challenge?

  • What did you learn from that?

  • Did you find new strengths or lessons for ‘next time’?

  • How are you going to handle a similar situation from now on?

This way, a setback becomes a moment of emotion AND a moment of learning / growing / professionalizing.

Because, yes dears, we are all a work in progress. How beautiful is that!?
