Maarten Peeters
Motion designer
In his job as a graphic designer, Maarten was hungry for more, wanted to make his own design decisions, and work at a higher level, but the job could not give him these opportunities. In addition, Maarten is an illustrator and has mastered motion design in recent years. He felt it was time to take the leap and asked for help to prepare him to become a full-time freelancer (@raoulandme).
He expected to get valuable tips, insights and broaden his horizon of what is possible as a motion designer. He wanted answers to the questions he had at the beginning of our trajectory. He saw me as a creative thinker, which is great, because I certainly am 😇.
Analyzing his strengths and weaknesses gave me a better idea of who he is, what he can do and what doubts we needed to work on. We started with the basic needs to build the foundations in his business.
We developed a cold emailing strategy as that is usually the way to go if you start from scratch.
Maarten described himself as an introvert, someone who is not comfortable getting into a room filled with strangers or picking up the phone to call a potential client. We took it one step at a time, starting with small networking events, one phone call to a person he knew via via,.... Currently, he is going to big networking events, picking up the phone more easily and even doing coffee dates with peers from his community.
He took the jump sooner than planned. Because his personal situation suddenly changed, he needed and wanted to do it earlier. And with me supporting him on the sideline, on the personal and professional fronts of his life, made him feel confident.
I knew that a cold email campaign can work, but what I've learned is what Maarten discovered. A subject line focused on the company is a big win!
