Kaatje Verschoren
Interior & portrait photographer
From word of mouth to a name in colour
Kaatje photographs interiors and people with a distinctive eye for colour. After years as an in-house photographer for design magazines, she went freelance in 2024. Since then she has worked for MAD Brussels, Vitra and Fermetti, and for interior architects such as Axelle Vertommen.
Her question
Most of her work came from loyal clients and word of mouth. She wanted to know how to find new clients, and how to charge what her experience is worth without being afraid to lose the job.
Her dream reached further: a full agenda of colourful interior and brand shoots, in Belgium and abroad, and a name people connect with colour. Before we started, she wrote that it was time to grow and find a second wind.
What we worked on
Who needs colour?
We started with one simple question. Beyond interior architects, the list kept growing: paint and tile brands, lighting and textile makers, boutique hotels. Her work turned out to be relevant to far more companies than the ones she had been approaching.
A structure around her offer
Her yearly goal became a number of shoots per month, so she can see what each month needs.
Detailed quotes became packages, which leaves less room to negotiate every small part.
A 50% advance invoice became standard, so her fixed costs are covered before delivery.
Her general terms now include a clause on AI.
Where she wants to stand
In our last sessions, we looked at the long run: Kaatje as a high-end photographer known for colour. Long-term collaborations became part of every quote. Saying no to work that doesn’t fit became part of building her name.
Naming what makes her work hers
Her eye for detail and composition. The way she styles a space. Her loyal, social way of working with clients. Instead of waiting for someone else to name those strengths, she learned to communicate them herself.
Looking back
Kaatje expected a mirror: a fresh, open look at her business. Looking back, that is what she names herself. She got fresh ideas and new perspectives, and someone who kept her motivated and pushed her to keep moving forward.
