Fiona Oikonomidou Pattern maker
Fiona oikonomidou (@heliosblue) is a pattern maker. Greek roots, geometric ornamentation, a visual language built over years of quiet research. The work was always there. She just kept putting it last.
She had been doing editorial work for newspapers and magazines to stay afloat. Reliable work. Not really hers. Meanwhile her own practice stayed in the drawer. A residency at Frans Masereel (@masereel.art) 8 years ago had given her a glimpse of what making could feel like. Then life got in the way.
What we worked on together:
Finding a way to protect her own creative work without dropping what pays the bills
Anchoring her patterns in something real: Greek ornamentation, her Odyssey research, a visual world she had been building without fully claiming it
Recreating a residency rhythm at home, with a real deadline, because she already knew that was how she worked best
Making her Instagram public and posting before everything felt finished
Producing her first products: a risograph calendar and cards, sold at her first market
She didn't need a new direction. She needed to trust the one she already had.
In her review, Fiona mentioned: "Katrijn supported me to overcome a huge barrier of doubt and make the transition from panic to creative euphoria."
This is why I show up every day. Because I've seen too much good work stay hidden, waiting to be ready, waiting for permission, waiting for the perfect moment that never quite arrives. Recognize yourself in Fiona's story? Book your free intro talk.
